15 Nov 2022 President’s Report
Happy to report that the 2021/22 season was an important rebuilding year for CADS Ontario after nearly 2 years of minimal to no programming. With a partial resumption of programming we saw a nearly doubling of memberships renewals. As was previously mentioned, we were also successful in applying for 3 grants; 2 from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and one from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help rebuild our programs across the Province. A large part of the funds were directed to subsidizing both Instructor certifications opportunities and Program fees in almost every program. We were very pleased that we were able to offer such a large portion of our membership free programming and training last season. The remainder of the funds have been allocated to purchasing 2 new Sit Skis which should be arriving by the end of the month. One highlight that I would like to mention from last season was our inaugural University Ski Day that saw us take 10 students with disabilities from the University of Toronto up to Blue Mountain for the day. With the assistance of Jack Sim and his team at Blue, we were able to introduce alpine skiing to a group of students who had mostly never been on snow and some trying it again for the first time since their injury. All in all a fantastic experience for the students and great Community outreach on behalf of CADS Ontario. We hope to be able to run a similar event this year. We continue to strengthen our bonds with the wider Adapted Snowsport community in ongoing meetings and discussions with Ontario Track 3 and the Toronto Ski Hawks with the hope that we will be able to work more collaboratively to ensure more participants are able to experience the thrill of skiing and snowboarding.¬ While a couple of our programs are still emerging from the complications of the pandemic we are hopeful that we will get more skiers and snowboarders on hill this year. Lastly, I want to remind you that the CADS Ontario beenies are available for purchase through your Snowline account or directly through the Division and that our CADS Ontario branded outerwear will be available for order in late January/early Feb. The catalogue is on the CADS Ontario website under CADS Apparel.
