The Adult Disabled Downhill Ski Club or ADDS at Caledon Ski Club is a volunteer based non-profit organization having the objective of promoting Alpine skiing to physically disabled adults over nineteen years of age. The program has been in existence since 1981. Our season starts January 12th, 2025 and finishes March 2nd, 2025.
MISSION
To provide opportunities for adults with disabilities by fostering recreational and social well being. Specifically, the association affords disabled adults an opportunity to learn to ski to a level of independence with the assistance of volunteers.
MEMBERSHIP
The cost per disabled skier is $432.00 a year plus an additional cost of $50 per round-trip on the bus. Additionally, all ADDS members are required to become members of CADS (Canadian Adaptive Snowsports) to be properly insured to participate. CADS membership is an added cost of $47 for disabled Skiers and Volunteers alike.
This price includes your lift ticket, adapted ski equipment, ski instruction, and luxury coach transportation to and from the hill, from Toronto (Yonge and York Mills). Ski instruction and assistance is provided by ADDS’ trained volunteers. ADDS is unable to provide personal attendant care support.
VOLUNTEERS
Please email ski.adds@cadsontario.ca for more information about volunteering.
All volunteers participate in training, starting with an orientation session in mid-December, and individual skier and adapted ski equipment related training on the hill once the program begins in January.
Throughout the season, volunteers are also given the opportunity to take further instruction from CADS certified instructors, and to get their instructor certification.
During ski days, a volunteer might buddy-ski with a disabled participant the entire day – such as with our “Rat Pack” – a group of advanced two, three and four-track skiers. Or a volunteer may work together with one or two other volunteers to assist and teach a new skier in a sit-ski, or learning to use out-riggers and ski-bra, or other adapted equipment and modified techniques.
Aside from the cost of CADS membership, there is no cost to volunteers on program days – ADDS covers the cost of coach transportation between Toronto and the ski hill & lift tickets. ADDS also reimburses the cost of the Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening at the end of the season for those who have volunteered a minimum of 6 program days during the season.
Minimal Volunteer Requirements: strong, comfortable and confident skier on Intermediate hills.
